I’m documenting what I’m buying and how much everything costs. On August 2, I went to Aldi and Trader Joe’s and spent $416.73. I went back to Aldi on August 10th and spent $76.10 (on practically nothing, btw), which brought my August total to $492.83. Last time, I went to Aldi and Costco and spent $579.79 on groceries and toilet paper. Added to the $492.83 spent in the first half of August, that brings our total to $1,072.62.
As a refresher, in May I set my budget at $760 per month (subject to the caveats below). In June, my monthly total was $972.09, and the total for July was $979.61. Those are actually pretty consistent. I’m still going to try to see if I can either spend less than that or, despite prices rising, keep it at a similar level.
The caveats: We make most of our meat and seafood purchases from Butcher Box throughout the year. We also make sporadic larger bulk purchases from Azure Standard to save money over what we can buy in the grocery store. I currently contribute $350 per month in a separate fund for these purchases.
What We Bought
Trader Joe’s ($14.17 Spent)

What We Bought:
I got all of the hamburger buns that had molded replaced, so there was no out of pocket cost for that. While I was there, I picked up 2 bottles of cold brew ($5.49 each plus $0.10 CRV each) and some spiced chai concentrate ($2.99).
I did go to Ralphs to get my free eggs (I had a coupon that expired 8/31) and while I was there I picked up groceries for the first week of September. I shopped late in the day on 8/31, so I’m going to treat that as part of September’s groceries, which I’ll post about next week.
August Totals
Our total for August was $1,072.62 plus $14.17, or $1,086.79, which included toilet paper.
What was your total spend for August? Was it more or less than you anticipated?
